I'm in!

Well, it took a couple of conversations with a colleague, several emails, a brief phone call to a helpful lady, and a valid credit card, but it was all worth it - because I'm in!!

Yup, I am now officially a matriculated graduate student in the Master of Science in Nursing program at Ol' Saint Joe's - home of the Fightin' Weasels (Go Weasels!).

I'm pretty psyched or, as we said last year - all fired up and ready to go!

Back in '04 I was just about in at another place, but after accepting what is now my current position I decided that a new job and grad school was just too much to chew on at the same time.

I think that this is going to work much better for me, anyway. I'd rather have the kind of freedom and flexibility that the program at Ol' Saint Joe's affords.

I'm taking one course at a time. The first is the very badly named Nursing Informatics. Ugh. What is it about the nursing profession that seems to require the awkward re-naming of perfectly acceptable fields of study?

I refuse to use that silly course title. To me, the real name of the topic area is The Application of Information Technology and Management to Nursing Education, Clinical Practice, and Administration.

There. Much better.

I've briefly gone through the syllabus, course materials, and assignments once, and now it's time to really get started. I'd love to wrap this one up in 6 weeks, but I'll set my sights on completing the course within 8.

I've got some early ideas for projects, etc., and will use this blog to post more thoughts and information as I get rolling.

Go Weasels!
